id say baby is on its way, especially since u got the pains twice in one night
either that or baby is starting to engage its head ready for birth

I am 38+3 and I have been getting the same kind of pains...
Last tuesday I was in town and they got so bad I swear the shop assistant thought I was going to give birth lol...
People I have spoken too have said it is just my body getting ready to give birth kind of like mild contractions... I use them to practise breathing and positions etc to help me for when I actually am in labour... Painful as they are I also keep reminding myself that it is going to get worse that was I dont get overcome with the pain...
I have also had pain where my midwife has said its my pelvis flexing also ready to give birth... maybe this is what is occuring?? I wouldnt worry too much but it may be worth asking ur midwife if you really are that worried
Not long to go now... Dont know bout u but im well excited!!!!! Do you know what sex you are having??

Hi,
you sound like your body is certainly preparing for the birth, but don't get too excited - I have been having the cramp-period type pains and strong braxton hicks now for weeks. I am 40 +6 so overdue now and have thought it was all starting so often now. I usually get my pains at night too, but they subside when I go to bed, although I have had some in the early hours too. Hope you are luckier and your baby comes quickly!

hiya.. you can count me into the strange pains gang!!
yesterday from 19h30 - 21h30 I had what felt like a constant braxton hicks contraction - tummy was rock hard for this entire time, with sharp shooting pains round the lower front of my bump, and at times up my bits!!! OW!! Then suddenly it all just stopped!!!
it would help ease the worry if we knew what it was wouldn't it?
However, saying that.. my labour with DS started with period pains, so Jennifer, this could be the start of it!! i was 38 weeks when DS was born too!! oooh exciting!!!
GOOD LUCK!

Hi Clair H,
I know I felt thoroughly fed up at 38 weeks too, especially as baby was breech until then and I was expecting to have a C sec at 39 weeks, till she turned. My first was induced at 38 weeks too, so I truly never thought I'd be here., now 41 weeks. Every day I try to have things planned to keep my mind occupied or else I would go bonkers! They will induce me on Friday but I must admit I am petrified of giving birth to a humongous baby and missing out on having a cute little baby (selfish I think but I can't help it) not to mention the fear of how much it will hurt - my first was 7,12 and that was bad enough (I am somewhat of a wimp too, does not help!)! Pregnancy always seems to go fast when it's someone else, but it does feel like forever multiplied by pie when you get to this stage! My family and friends have been a real support - my hubbie too, and my little girl has been throwing magic dust on my tummy to try and get baby to come out! (It's been as effective as all the other methods I have tried!).I keep using visualisation techniques (of the bottle of wine I am going to savour once its all over!)
How are you coping Clair ? Good luck to you all, sorry so pessimistic about pains, sooner or later, they must be the real thing.... Fingers crossed for everyone and let us know how it all goes!

I'm not sure wether ur right to worry about having a large baby... Did you not see that big baby programme on a few wks ago!!! 17lbs one of em was wen she was born!!! OUCH!! lol
They have predicted mine to be about 7 n half but then ive noticed they say that to everyone lol...
Been having my strange dreams again lately... woke up this morning thinking i could smell blood!! So yeh was a bit of a 10 minutes half asleep panic then realising i was just dreaming lol hubby thought i was going crackers hahaha
Wishing you all the luck in the world hunni... Let us know as soon as you can
